Podokesaurus
dinosaur
Podokesaurus, (Podokesaurus holyokensis), small carnivorous North American dinosaur found as a single specimen in rocks dated to the Middle Jurassic Epoch (174.1 million to about 163.5 million years ago) of Massachusetts. The theropod was about 1.5 metres (5 feet) long and was very lightly built. It is known only from a partial specimen, classified as Podokesaurus holyokensis, that was discovered in the 1800s and preserved at Mount Holyoke College. The specimen was destroyed by a fire in 1917, and casts are all that remain. P. holyokensis is the official state dinosaur of Massachusetts.
