cobalt milkweed beetle, (Chrysochus cobaltinus), species of leaf beetle found throughout the far western United States. The milkweed beetle is a beautiful dark cobalt blue in color. The cobalt milkweed beetle feeds on milkweed and dogbane plants. It is a close relative of, and a bit shorter than, the dogbane beetle (Chrysochus auratus).
