Renee Moore is a community organizer, project manager, and program coordinator for cultural and political activities and events. A graduate of Skidmore College, Moore is most noted for Solomon Northup Day: A Celebration of Freedom, an annual event based on Solomon Northup’s autobiography Twelve Years A Slave (1853). Moore conceived and founded the day as a private individual in 1999. The Library of Congress recognized her work with a reception in 2000 and placed the story of Solomon Northup in the permanent collection of its American Folklife Center. Since its inception, the project has honored the legacy of Northup’s life and that of all African Americans as a part of American history.
