Reportedly the most expensive coffee in the world, kopi luwak is made by feeding coffee beans to small catlike mammals called civets. The beans pass through them undigested and are harvested from their excrement. The unusual system originated during the 19th century: Dutch colonizers forbade Indonesians from collecting coffee for personal use, but the Indigenous workers still had access to civet droppings.
