Cows are not discerning eaters and often accidentally ingest bits of metal found in their fields and feed, leading to a malady called “hardware disease.” Farmers counteract this by feeding their cows 3-inch long magnets that safely attract metal away from the stomach lining. The magnet remains inside the cow for the rest of its life.
