Badulla, town, southeastern Sri Lanka, southeast of Kandy, on the Badulu Oya (river). It is surrounded by mountains and is the site of two large and wealthy temples. Badulla is also a marketplace for the agricultural products of the villages, terraced rice paddies, and tea estates in the area. Limestone quarries are worked near the town, and it is linked by rail with Colombo. Pop. (2007 est.) 42,923; (2012) 42,237.
