Bandundu, city, southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the junction of the Kwango and Kwilu rivers. It is a river port serving navigation on the Congo River system from Kinshasa (the national capital, 186 miles [300 km] southwest). There are air links to Kinshasa and such eastern centres as Kikwit and Kananga. The locality is mainly agricultural, producing palm oil and kernels, peanuts (groundnuts), manioc, and fibrous plants (for rope making). Pop. (2004 est.) 117,197.
