Ermelo, gemeente (municipality), central Netherlands, near Veluwe Lake, comprising the villages of Ermelo, Nunspeet, and Elspeet. First mentioned in 855, it has ruins of the monastery of the Knights of St. John and a church with an 11th-century Romanesque steeple and a 14th-century choir. The main economic activities are poultry and dairy farming and dye, plastic, and metal industries. It is also a popular holiday centre. Pop. (2007 est.) 26,305.
