Kópavogur, town, southwestern Iceland, situated on the southeastern shore of Faxa Bay, just to the south of Reykjavík, the nation’s capital. A modern fast-growing residential suburb of the capital, Kópavogur was by the late 1990s Iceland’s second largest town. Pop. (2006 est.) 27,536.
