Kuala Belait, town and port, western Brunei. It is the capital of Belait district, located at the mouth of the Belait River near the South China Sea, west of Seria. Kuala Belait lies at the centre of an oil field with offshore wells. The town is on the coastal road that runs eastward to Seria and Bandar Seri Begawan, the national capital, and westward to Miri, in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering offers technical training in construction and engineering trades. Pop. (2011) 31,860; (2016) 30,226.
