Ortigueira, town, A Coruña provincia (province), in the comunidad autónoma (autonomous community) of Galicia, northwestern Spain. It lies northeast of A Coruña city, on the Santa Marta de Ortigueira estuary, an inlet of the Bay of Biscay, near the northernmost point of the Iberian Peninsula. The town is a summer resort with sardine fisheries and a coastal trade. Historically, other economic activities have included boatbuilding, fish salting, and the manufacture of linen and china. Pop. (2008 est.) 1,768.
