Mineral deposits in the county include iron, zinc, and copper, and its industries range from textile weaving to stone quarrying. Most of the major towns, including Linköping, the capital, are in the lowland crossed by the Göta Canal. Area 4,496 square miles (11,646 square km). Pop. (2005 est.) 415,990.
