colligative property
colligative property, in chemistry, any property of a substance that depends on, or varies according to, the number of particles (molecules or atoms) present but does not depend on the nature of the particles. Examples include the pressure of an ideal gas and the depression of the freezing point of a solvent caused by dissolved particles.
