Dahūk, city, capital of Dahūk muḥāfaẓah (governorate), northern Iraq, lying near the northern end of the Tigris River valley. The area in which it is situated is unsuitable for cultivation but is good for fruit orchards and pasturage. Dahūk has a fruit-canning plant and a textile mill. It was a popular tourist destination before the start of the Iraq War in 2003. Pop. (2001 est.) 40,100.
