Lora del Río, town, Sevilla provincia (province), in the comunidad autónoma (autonomous community) of Andalusia, southwestern Spain. It lies about 34 miles (55 km) northeast of Sevilla city on the Guadalquivir River. Olive oil and canned goods are produced there, and fighting bulls are raised in the area. The Sevilla-Córdoba rail line passes through the town. Lora del Río has been identified with the Axatiana mentioned by the Roman writer Pliny the Elder. The town was taken from the Moors by Ferdinand III of Castile (1243), who gave it to the Knights of Malta. Pop. (2008 est.) 17,441.
