Drew University, private, coeducational institution of higher learning in Madison, New Jersey, U.S., affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The school was founded in 1867 as Drew Theological Seminary. A College of Liberal Arts was added in 1928, and the name was changed to Drew University. Women were first admitted in 1942. The Graduate School opened in 1955. In addition to undergraduate studies, the university offers master’s and doctoral degree programs in English literature, history, women’s studies, religion, and theology. The school’s facilities include a 186-acre (75-hectare) campus and forest preserve and Zuck Arboretum. During the summer the campus is home to the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival. Total enrollment is approximately 2,300.
