Bishop Blougram’s Apology, long poem by Robert Browning, published in the two-volume collection Men and Women (1855).
The poem contains conversations between Bishop Blougram and Gigadibs, a journalist. The two men argue about the nature of reality and the nature of faith. Neither man finally succeeds at his original intent: the journalist cannot pry from the prelate information that might be personally embarrassing, and the bishop is unsuccessful in demoralizing the journalist.
