Eluru
Eluru, city, northeast-central Andhra Pradesh state, southern India. It is located on a low-lying plain at the junction of the canal systems of the Godavari and Krishna rivers.
The name of the city was changed to its present form in 1949. Mainly a manufacturing city, Eluru produces textiles and leather products but is most noted for its pile carpets. It is also a centre for trade in rice, oilseeds, tobacco, and sugar. The city has a college affiliated with Andhra University in Vizianagaram. Buddhist archaeological remains are at the nearby village of Pedda Vegi. Pop. (2001) 190,062; (2011) 203,780.
