stree-dhan
stree-dhan, in Indian society, material assets given to a woman by her parents at the time of her marriage. It may include money, jewelry, land, and utensils. Stree-dhan is different from a dowry in that it remains a woman’s exclusive property; her husband and his family have no rights over it.
