Erramala Range, range of hills in western Andhra Pradesh state, southern India. The hills, which trend northeast to southwest, are situated on the eastern edge of the Deccan plateau, between the basins of the Krishna River (north) and the Penneru River (south). They are composed of quartzites and slates of the Cambrian Period (about 540 to 490 million years ago) with interbedded lavas of a younger age. Tributaries of the Kunderu River—itself a tributary of the Penneru—have divided the range into longitudinal hills and valleys.
