The pineapple family (Bromeliaceae) consists of about 56 genera and 3,000 species of perennial flowering plants, almost all of which are found in the tropical New World and the West Indies. Many grow as epiphytes on other plants, though a number are terrestrial. The small flowers are often surrounded by brightly coloured bracts. The following is a list of some of the major genera and species in the family Bromeliaceae, arranged alphabetically by genus.
