Anthony Adverse
Anthony Adverse, historical novel by Hervey Allen, published in 1933. A long, rambling work set in Europe, Africa, and the Americas during the Napoleonic era, Anthony Adverse relates the many adventures of the eponymous hero. These include slave trading in Africa, his experiences as a businessman and plantation owner in New Orleans, and his imprisonment and eventual death in Mexico.
