Krasnodon

Krasnodon, coal-mining city, eastern Ukraine. It lies on the Great (Bilsha) Kam’yanka River. Krasnodon was established in 1914 and incorporated in 1938. Historically, it has been important for the mining of bituminous coal. A local museum commemorates the defense of the city during World War II by local youths. Pop. (2001) 50,560; (2005 est.) 48,026.
