leopard’s bane, any plant of the genus Doronicum of the family Asteraceae, consisting of about 40 species of perennial herbs native to Eurasia. They have large flower heads with yellow disk flowers and one row of yellow ray flowers.
Some leaves are clustered at the base and others alternate along and sometimes clasp the stout, usually single stem. Several species, especially D. cordatum and D. plantagineum, are cultivated as garden ornamentals.
