millefleur tapestry, kind of tapestry characterized by its background motif of many small flowers. Most often they show secular scenes or allegories. Millefleur tapestries are thought to have been made first in the Loire district in France in the middle of the 15th century. They became popular and were produced in many parts of France and the Low Countries until the end of the 16th century.
