Muzaffarnagar
Muzaffarnagar, city, northwestern Uttar Pradesh state, northern India. It is located in the Upper Ganges-Yamuna Doab alluvial plain, about 65 miles (100 km) north-northeast of Delhi.
Muzaffarnagar was founded about 1633 by the Mughal nobleman Khan-e Jahān, who named it for his father, Muẓaffar Khan. The city is a road and rail hub, with connections to Delhi and other cities in northwestern Uttar Pradesh. It is an agricultural marketplace and has some light industry. Several colleges are located in the city. Pop. (2001) 316,729; (2011) 392,768.
