Anne, 1er duke de Noailles (died February 15, 1678, Paris) was a count of Noailles (grandson of the first count, Antoine of Noailles) who was created the first duc de Noailles and a peer of France in 1663. He had played an important part in the Fronde and had become a protégé of Cardinal Mazarin. He was made premier captain of Louis XIV’s bodyguard in 1648 and became captain general (governor) of the newly won province of Roussillon, to which his descendants were usually appointed thereafter.
