Osasco, city, southeastern São Paulo estado (state), Brazil. Located at 2,360 feet (720 metres) above sea level, Osasco lies along the Tietê River. It is just northwest of São Paulo city, the state capital, and is part of its metropolitan area. Osasco has experienced extremely rapid growth owing to the increasing concentration of heavy industry in the suburban regions of São Paulo, bringing with it the pollution and congestion problems associated with such growth. The city has meatpacking plants and numerous metallurgical plants. Other important industries include the manufacturing of auto accessories, railroad cars, textiles, and chemicals. Both highways and a railroad run from São Paulo to Osasco, thence west and northwest to communities farther inland. Pop. (2010) 666,740.
