Pervomaysk
Pervomaysk, city, southern Ukraine, at the confluence of the Synyukha (Sinyukha) and Southern Buh rivers. The city was established in 1919 by the merging of three settlements—Olviopil, Holta, and Bohopil—founded during the 15th–18th century by Lithuanians, Cossacks, and Poles, respectively. It is now an industrial centre, with machine, engineering, food, and furniture industries. Pop. (2005 est.) 68,178.
