Ping River, river in northwestern Thailand, one of the headstreams of the Chao Phraya River. It rises on the Thailand-Myanmar (Burma) border in the Daen Lao Range and flows south-southeast. The Wang River is its main tributary. At Ban Pak Nam Pho the Ping joins the combined Nan and Yom rivers to form the Chao Phraya after a course of some 370 miles (590 km). Important towns on its banks are Chiang Mai, Tak, and Kamphaeng Phet. A major dam north of Tak supplies hydroelectric power.
