propylene, a colourless, flammable, gaseous hydrocarbon, C3H6, obtained from petroleum; large quantities of propylene are used in the manufacture of resins, fibres, and elastomers (see polyolefin), and numerous other chemical products. See alsopropylene glycol; glycol; propyl alcohol.
