Puteaux

PuteauxGrande Arche de la Défense (centre), Puteaux, France.

Puteaux, town, a residential and industrial suburb of Paris, Hauts-de-Seine département, Île-de-France région, north-central France. It is situated on the west bank of the Seine River opposite the suburb of Neuilly-sur-Seine and the Bois de Boulogne, which separate it from the capital. The town is connected to Paris by a regional express railway running from the Rond Point de la Défense.

The manufacture of consumer products (electronics and perfumes) remains important in Puteaux, but the town’s former industrial character changed radically with the development of La Défense, a business complex of high-rise office towers, apartment blocks, an exhibition and conference centre, and a retail complex. Pop. (1999) 40,780; (2014 est.) 44,506.
