rhinovirus
rhinovirus, a group of viruses capable of causing common colds in human adults and children. They belong to the family Picornaviridae (see picornavirus). The virus is thought to be transmitted to the upper respiratory tract by airborne droplets. After an incubation period of 2 to 5 days, the acute stage of the illness lasts 4 to 6 days.
