Rum
Rum, bare mountainous island of the Inner Hebrides group, Highlands council area, Scot. The island measures about 8.5 by 8 miles (14 by 13 km) and contains four peaks over 2,000 feet (600 metres), the highest being Askival (2,659 feet [810 metres]). Rum was acquired in 1957 by the National Conservancy, a British conservation group, and became a nature reserve set aside for botanical and geological research and for studying the local red deer.
