Santa Ana Volcano, mountain peak in southwestern El Salvador. The highest peak in the country, it rises to 7,749 feet (2,362 meters). The volcano has been active since the 16th century and last erupted in 2005, its first eruption in more than 100 years. It has a small sulfurous lake in its crater. Lake Coatepeque, a popular recreation area, is at its eastern foot. The city of Santa Ana lies at the foot of the northeastern slope of the volcano.
