Shchūchīnsk, city, northern Kazakhstan. It is located on Lake Shchuchye, about 35 miles (55 km) southeast of Kökshetaū.
It was founded in 1828 as a Cossack settlement and is the centre of a large agricultural area. Shchūchīnsk is also a health resort and the railway station for Kazakhstan’s leading health resort, Borovoye, which is 15 miles (25 km) to the northeast. In the vicinity are the Kazakh Forestry Research Institute and a noted arboretum. Pop. (2009) 44,106; (2012 est.) 45,004.
