South Orange Village
South Orange Village, township (town), Essex county, northeastern New Jersey, U.S., immediately west of Newark. Following the American Civil War, many residents of New York City were attracted by the natural beauty of the open, rolling country and moved into the area. It was originally the Orange Dale section of Orange township, but it separated from Orange and was incorporated in 1869. Seton Hall University (1856) is located there. Although the township is largely a residential suburb, it also has some light manufacturing. Pop. (2000) 16,964; (2010) 16,198.
