stilt bug, (family Berytidae), any of about 100 species of delicate, slender-bodied, slow moving, long-legged insects in the true bug order, Heteroptera. Stilt bugs are 5 to 9 mm (0.2 to 0.4 inch) long and are brown to blend in with the dense vegetation on which they are found.

All of the stilt bug species are plant feeders. Jalysus spinosis of the eastern United States damages corn, peach, and tomato crops. J. wickhami is found in the central United States.

Some researchers place stilt bugs in the family Neididae.
