Ussuriysk, city, Primorsky kray (territory), far eastern Russia. It lies about 50 miles (80 km) north of Vladivostok along the Trans-Siberian Railroad at the junction with a line to Harbin in Heilongjiang province, China. Founded as the village of Nikolskoye in 1866, it became a city in 1897 and was renamed Nikolsk-Ussuriysk in 1926, Voroshilov in 1935, and Ussuriysk in 1957. It has food-processing, footwear, clothing, and other light industries. A medical school and agricultural and teacher-training colleges are also located there. Pop. (2006 est.) 154,755.
