Bibracte
Bibracte, ancient Gallic town (modern Mont Beuvray, in SaƓne-et-Loire, France), capital of the Aedui in the time of Julius Caesar and the site of his defeat of the Helvetii tribe, the climax of his first campaign in Gaul (58 bc). To destroy native traditions, Augustus moved the inhabitants to his new town Augustodunum (Autun) in 12 bc.
