the blue flower, in literary works, a mystic symbol of longing. The lichtblaue Blume first appeared in a dream to the hero of Novalis’s fragmentary novel Heinrich von Ofterdingen (1802), who associates it with the woman he loves from afar. The blue flower became a widely recognized symbol among the Romantics.
