brilliant green

brilliant green, a triphenylmethane dye of the malachite-green series (see malachite green) used in dilute solution as a topical antiseptic. Brilliant green is effective against gram-positive microorganisms. It has also been used to dye silk and wool. It occurs as small, shiny, golden crystals soluble in water or alcohol.
