The character of Darth Vader was created by director and screenwriter George Lucas. Vader’s life follows the standard arc of the hero’s journey, a storytelling structure common to Western mythology. Vader was physically played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones. In Star Wars: Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi, Vader’s face was that of actor Sebastian Shaw.
