Although Mexico does not have an official religion, many of its most important holidays and festivals are associated with the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. Among these are Easter, the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos; November 1–2) the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12), and the Christmas holidays (including Las Posadas, which lasts from December 16 to Christmas Eve, December 24). Significant secular holidays include Cinco de Mayo (May 5) and Independence Day (September 16).
