DRS in Formula One stands for “drag reduction system.” It refers to a mechanism by which a flap located on the wing at the back of a Formula One car can be opened by a driver during a race, reducing drag on their vehicle and giving them a boost of speed. It was introduced in 2011 in order to make it easier for a driver to overtake another.
