Ratan Tata was an Indian businessman and a member of the prominent Tata family. He was chairman of the Tata Group, a Mumbai-based conglomerate, for more than two decades. Upon assuming leadership in 1991, he aggressively sought to expand it. The group acquired London-based Tetley Tea in 2000, purchased the truck-manufacturing operations of Daewoo Motors in 2004, bought Corus Group in 2007, purchased Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008, and in 2009 launched the Tata Nano, a vehicle touted as the “People’s Car.”
