John Wilkes Booth was part of one of the most distinguished acting families in the 19th century United States. His father, Junius Brutus Booth, an English immigrant, achieved popularity in the U.S. second to that of American actor Edwin Forrest. Booth’s brother Edwin was a renowned tragedian, remembered as one of the greatest performers of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
