Temple began taking dance lessons at age three, with her mother’s encouragement, and was soon appearing in Baby Burlesks, one-reel comedies in which children played adults. It was the musical Bright Eyes (1934) that propelled her to stardom. She was so popular that a nonalcoholic beverage was named for her and a look-alike doll produced.
