The Tashkent Declaration was a formal peace agreement signed by Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and Pakistani Pres. Mohammad Ayub Khan on January 10, 1966, at Tashkent in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic (now Uzbekistan). Brokered by the Soviet Union, it required both countries to withdraw their forces to prewar positions.
