knuckle, the joint of a finger. The knuckle joint of an animal killed for eating is the tarsal or carpal joint of its leg. The word is used also in medical parlance to describe a loop of bowel within a hernial sac. “Knuckling” is used to describe a deformity of the leg of a horse caused by a contraction of the posterior tendon of the fetlock.
